Reflection on the TMA January event: The Changing World of Chapter 11 Practice
Another excellent event with the Maine TMA Chapter. We would like to thank all who attended and especially acknowledge both guest speakers: Chief Judge James B. Haines, Jr., and Judge Louis H. Kornreich from the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maine for their thoughts on the changing future of Chapter 11 practice in Maine. Chapter 11 cases in Maine and to some extent the New England area are shrinking due to external economic forces and the inherent costs associated with Chapter 11 practice. Lawyers who specialize in this field should broaden their scope and or their reach. Chapter 11 practice is strongly tied to the manufacturing industry and Maine has seen a steady decline in this field. Both judges also reflected on how Bankruptcy law first started and its evolution to today’s Bankruptcy law market which was extremely interesting.
