Portland Food Council Event
Opus Consulting Group attended a tasty event hosted by the Portland Food Council at SMCC’s school of Culinary Arts. Culinary students provided a delicious breakfast for attendees while the Portland Food Council presented results from their survey of 58 Portland-based Food businesses. The Portland Food Council designed the survey to convene Portland’s food businesses and hear from them on topics including sustainability, staffing, barriers to entry and growth, food security, and more.
Some of the issues faced across Portland’s food industry were reinforced in multiple survey responses. These issues included: ability to attract and retain staffing, raising capital, coordinating transportation logistics, licensing and permitting complexity, and finding certified leasing space (among others).
After hearing the results of the survey, attendees of the event were tasked with prioritizing action items for the Council, which included plans to coordinate efforts around regulatory influence and to create a platform to facilitate information and resource sharing within the Portland food business community.
